Fatal Helicopter Crash

A lawsuit has been filed against a helicopter tour company over the death of a newlywed couple in a helicopter crash earlier this month in Nevada. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but a strange maneuver just before the crash points to either mechanical or pilot error, the lawyer for the plaintiffs said. Five people were killed in the crash.

Ford Trucks recalled due to transmission problems

Ford Motors has issued a recall of certain F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 trucks after it was discovered the vehicles can be shifted out of “park” without pressing the brake. The company said there is a problem with the brake/shift interlock, which increases the “risk of crash or injury to a nearby pedestrian.”

Suit: School to Blame in DUI Death of 9-Year-Old Girl

A Tennessee woman has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Sumner County Board of Education after her nine-year-old daughter was killed in a DUI accident after school with her drunk stepfather. The lawsuit claims school officials were negligent in allowing the girl to be picked up from school by her intoxicated stepfather who “was not on the approved transportation list.” The lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages.

Ex-NBA Security Employee Files Suit Against League

A former security official for the NBA has filed a lawsuit against the league, claiming he was fired for supporting female colleagues who “complained of sexual harassment and discrimination.” The plaintiff, employed by the league for 10 years, said in his suit that when he took complaints of harassment to his superiors, they did nothing. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has accused a California marketing company of misleading customers in its promotion of Lap-Band weight loss surgery. The agency said the company, 1-800-GET-THIN, grossly underplays the serious risks of the procedure to its patients. Agency officials said they began investigating the company after receiving complaints about the ads from the head of Los Angeles County’s public health agency

Control Problems Found At Another J&J Plant

More issues have been uncovered by federal investigators at another Johnson & Johnson plant. The Lancaster, Pa., plant, which produces heartburn medications, was cited with quality control problems and chaotic record keeping, along with complaints from customers that the medications were ineffective or not in the properly marked bottles. While no recall has been issued, inspectors found that the Lancaster plant “could not ensure that drugs produced there were up to standard.” The Lancaster plant is the third J&J plant to be flagged by the F.D.A. this year.

Jury Awards $114 Mill In Lawsuit against Nursing Home

A Florida jury as ordered a local nursing home to pay $114 to the family of a 76-yaer-old woman who was allegedly abused while staying at the home, and that abuse led to her death. According to the lawsuit, the woman suffered “pressure sores, overmedication, malnourishment and dehydration” during her stay at the home. The award was for $14 million in damages and $100 million in punitive damages.
